G!RO is very pleased to be hosting a very special film night on 23 April to show the critically acclaimed Rising From Ashes movie, which tells the harrowing but inspiring tale of the rise of Team Rwanda Cycling. Narrated by Oscar-winning Forest Whitaker, Rising From Ashes shows how a group of genocide survivors team up with ex-pro cyclist Jock Boyer (first American in the Tour de France) by chance to create a cycling team.

Charting the rise of Team Rwanda and their most famous export Adrien Niyonshuti from wooden bike rider to representing Rwanda at the 2012 London Olympics (currently Team Dimension Data World Tour Team rider), the film is a truly inspirational insight into how the passion, pain and commitment of the founder riders and their coach helped a nation retrieve its pride and hope.

Team Rwanda Cycling is a non-profit organisation and relies heavily on donations and support from the cycling industry and philanthropists worldwide to maintain its training programme, rider salaries and scouting programme across Rwanda. All donations help build an industry and community across Rwanda which gives children and young adults the opportunity to achieve something their parents could never dream of. Team Rwanda is a beacon of hope and inspiration to Rwandans to strive for a better life.

This event is part of a fund-raising campaign for Team Rwanda Cycling being run in the UK in 2016, including a team of fundraisers taking part in a London-Paris ride in July (#TeamRwandaUK). Entry to the event is free of charge (personal donations welcome HERE if you are keen to help), however we are keen for you to participate in our exclusive fund-raising auction on the night of some amazing cycling memorabilia and kit…
