Daisy's Guide to Keeping Occupied

Daisy's Guide to Keeping Occupied

March 26, 2020

Meet Daisy, G!RO Cafe Manager extraordinaire and all round legend! Since, we took the difficult decision to close the doors of G!RO given the current unprecedented global situation, she has found herself with a bit more time on her hands at home, like many of us doing our bit to help the fight against Covid_19! She decided to write this awesome little blog for us on what she’s doing with all this spare time and how she’s trying to #KeepItGiro whilst we’re closed. She has plenty of awesome ideas and inspiration for how you could win our instagram competition, where you could win a G!RO mussette full of Workshop Coffee. Head over to our instagram to get involved; simply show us how you're keeping it G!RO at home, like Daisy, tag us and add the hashtag #KeepItGiro. We’ll be picking our favourite soon. Now enjoy Daisy’s insight into things that are keeping her sane in this strange, uncertain time.

A little introduction: Some of you may know me from behind the counter at G!RO, pouring elephant latte art whilst keeping the cafe up and running. Others may know me as ‘that girl in Francis Cade’s video’... But my name’s Daisy and whilst I am missing the daily hustle of the cafe, I’ve been keeping busy at home during this lockdown.

Every morning should start with a coffee, I am sure this is relatable for all you G!RO crew out there, and if it doesn’t I’m concerned. I’ve brought the goods home with the workshop ‘Las Quebradas’ single origin blend from Peru. I either use a cafetiere (when I’m feeling lazy) or a v60 drip and it’s a decent brew every time. Workshop have these super handy brew guides on their website, if you’re new to the world of #BrewAtHome, and you can purchase some seriously delicious and fresh Workshop coffee through the G!RO website. Remember to tag the G!RO instagram, and use the hashtag #KeepItGiro on your posts when you’re enjoying a brew at home and you might even be in with a chance of winning a morale boosting care mussette of Workshop coffee!!

One thing that keeps my mind off the news, which is seemingly so important and beneficial for mental wellbeing in a difficult time like this, is cross stitch. My intro into the cross stitch world was using a small kit bought for me by Jordan in our G!RO secret santa, and the obsession has grown. It’s *fairly* easy, takes quite a bit of patience but, I can personally vouch for the reward being well worth it. Once you get comfortable with it you can start personalising designs and make them for friends and family. My favourite thing at the moment is putting on some trash TV (just bought Disney+ subscription, no regrets) and cross stitching away, really takes your mind off what’s going on in the real world.

I’m very lucky to be living with my partner but sometimes some time apart on different sides of the house can make a world of difference. I discovered a super simple vegan cookie recipe and they’re delicious!! It makes enough cookies to keep you going for a week... or around 24 hours if you’re like me and snacking is a hobby. Recipe! I’ve found them to be the perfect accompaniment to my second brew of the day as well, Cookie and Coffee is a deadly combo and mid-morning ritual to chuck into the current routine! Let us know if you bake these, or anything else for that matter to accompany your morning coffee break by tagging us on instagram!

And I think it goes without saying but I’ve found a fair bit more time to be riding my bike, like I am sure many of you have!!! You can go solo, or with your household, according to the government guidelines. I am making sure to obey these guidelines attentively so as not to jeopardise the freedom we are so fortunate to have, in still being allowed to ride outside - unlike countries including Spain and Italy. So if venturing out SOLO or with your household, it’s important I stress that you be safe, be responsible for your own actions and keep your distance. I opted to get outside and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine; I enjoyed some quiet lanes on one of our G!RO Local Loops. It left me feeling very grateful to still be allowed outside for exercise so let’s keep it this way, this sunshine is too good to miss! If you want to be even safer, or are a fan of Zwift - G!RO are also offering the chance to get riding indoors with our community, we're offering some Zwift group rides with our ride leader Jamie, if you’re on zwift, click the link and find Jamie’s handy guide on how to join him.

I hope this can help anyone who may be feeling a little lost or bored at this time and see you (hopefully soon) back at G!RO for a tasty brew. Cheers, Daisy!
